Dear Students, We enter one of the most exciting parts of calculus; applications of calculus: limits, continuity, derivatives, extrema, asymptotes, sketching graphs of different types of functions, and one of the most important and exciting topics: optimization problems. This is really cool and most useful part of calculus. You would love it. I would really like you to focus on applications therefore I would push for putting the Gateway Exam behind you. Let us help each other and let us do it collectively. A collective effort is a key for the success. I encourage you to work on your small based on curiosity and creativity project which I describe in the section “Lectures” as follows: Monday, 10/03/2016: Writing Project based on Collaborative and Interactive Discussion. “Why I care: My Story about my Passion for Enhancing the Quality of Life through Innovation” Students have free time, they are encouraged to discuss their ideas with the others, It is expected that students will write about their interests in and passions in helping humanity. Students are expected to demonstrate their curiosity and creativity in this story. The purpose of this outside of the classroom activity is to prepare students for thinking of what kind of skills and tools we need to have to work on real world applications of calculus. Fill free in your writing about your passion for enhancing the quality of life. Be as creative as you can. Enjoy it! This project is for 25 points. Observe that I modified distribution of points: Exam I = 100 points and Exam II (take home exam) = 50 points I have no doubts that we will improve significantly the performance of the entire class very soon but we need to work very hard, help each other by collaborating and communicating. Wishing you most productive and enjoyable weekend, Bozenna Pasik- Duncan
