Homework Grading Policies and Expectations
Homework assignments will be collected at the beginning of the lectures on MWFs. NO LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED. Each assignment will be graded on the basis of ten (10) points. Please use 8 ½ x 11 paper that is folded in half lengthwise. ON THE OUTSIDE WRITE: NAME, DATE, and ASSIGNMENT NUMBER
Homework is a major part of the learning process in Mathematics and it is essential that students work their own problems and do the homework on a regular basis.
Examinations: Gateway Test, Exam I: September 25, Exam II: October 14, Exam III: November 20, Final: December 18
Gateway Test: The Gateway exam is a ten question exam where the ten questions are selected randomly from a list of about 100 questions. You will be provided the list of 100 questions for study. No partial credit will be given on the problems and you must get at least nine of the ten questions correct. No calculators are permitted on the exam.
When you pass the exam, nine or ten correct answers, you will be given 100 points regardless of whether you answered nine or ten correctly.
You will be permitted to retake the examination twice a week until you pass it or until the Gateway period is over.
The exam will be administered by KAP, the Kansas Algebra Program, in room 324 on the third floor of Strong Hall. You must have your KU ID and know your instructor’s name to take the exam. You may start taking the exam immediately; the last day to take the Gateway is October 15. You may only take the exam once a day.
Final Examination: The final examination is on Thursday December 18, 4:30-7:00 p.m. This examination will cover all the material of the course.
Missed Exams: Students who have a valid reason for missing an exam should discuss alternate arrangements with me before the exam. Almost no excuse will be accepted for missing the common midterm or the common final. (In particular, airline tickets, jobs, weddings, athletic events, are not considered valid excuses for missing a common exam.)
Grading System: Your grade in this course will be determined on a point system. A maximum of 1000 points can be accumulated as follows:
